LONDON -

Danish-headquartered mineral processing and materials handling specialist, FLSmidth, has been awarded a contract worth approximately 35m euros from Coastal Gujarat Power Ltd. - a wholly owned subsidiary of the Tata Power Company Ltd. - for the supply and construction of a coal handling system for the company's Ultra Mega Power Plant project in the state of Gujarat, India. Tata Power Company Ltd. is India's largest private power utility.

The scope of the supply includes a complete coal handling system to convey coal from a jetty to a stockpile and from there to the power plant. The system has a 6,800 tonne/h stockpiling capacity and 4,500 tonne/h reclaiming capacity. Apart from one of the world's largest bucket wheel stacker-reclaimers for coal, the system also includes a series of conveyors of high speed and high capacity.

FLSmidth has previously received two material handling orders from the Tata Power Company Ltd. The first came in 2006 and was followed by another in 2008.

"Material handling systems and products is the fastest growing segment of FLSmidth's portfolio and this contract demonstrates our capability of meeting the strictest requirements of a wide spectrum of industries, including infrastructure sectors such as ports and energy," Group CEO Jørgen Huno Rasmussen comments.

The order will contribute beneficially to FLSmidth's earnings until completion in late 2010.
