The Swedish miner slashed production 13% earlier this year on demand concerns
Posted: Tuesday , 29 Sep 2009STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -
Swedish miner Boliden (BOL.ST: Quote) said on Tuesday it was ramping up zinc production at its smelters with the aim of reaching full capacity by the end of the third quarter.
The miner, which slashed zinc production by 13% earlier this year due to lower demand, said the market was absorbing its increased output of zinc.
"Sometime in Q3 we will be up at full production -- we're almost there," a Boliden spokeswoman said. "We see that we can sell it (the zinc) even with the ramped-up production."
Boliden, which owns copper and zinc mines in Sweden and Ireland as well as smelters in several Nordic countries, sells most of its output to European customers.
Earlier this month Boliden told Reuters it had not yet seen any upturn in demand in its markets, despite the recovery of metal prices. It is due to report earnings late next month.
