The operations were suspended after a methane explosion
Author: Riversdale resumes ops at SA Anthracite CollieryJOHANNESBURG (Reuters) -
Riversdale Mining Ltd. resumed most of the operations at its Zululand Anthracite Colliery in South Africa, which were suspended after a methane explosion at the mine, a senior official said on Thursday.
The colliery's Chief Operating Officer, Andries Engelbrecht, said one out of five sections at the mine would remain shut until at least Wednesday next week.
"It is hoped that permission (to resume operations in the affected section) will be granted after a presentation has been given to the principal inspector of mines next week Wednesday," Engelbrecht said in a statement.
The methane explosion at the mine, which occurred on Monday, killed one worker and injured two others.
