Range Resources starts seismic survey in Puntland

Tuesday , 27 May 2008

ASX and AIM listed Horn of Africa oil explorer Range Resources Limited (ASX: RRS, AIM: RRL), through its joint venture partner TSX listed Africa Oil Corporation (TSX: AOI), has started a 2,600km seismic survey in the Puntland State of Somalia (see attached photo's).

Managing Director Michael Povey said today the survey, designed to acquire high quality 2D vibroseis (vibratory and electronic energy imaging), is being carried out in the Dharoor Valley in northern Puntland.

"We have been able to make a start on the survey, which is an integral part of a comprehensive exploration programme in the region, following the arrival of seismic equipment at Bossaso Port," Mr Povey said.

"The establishment of onsite camp and operational facilities coupled with the successful liaison and communication initiatives we and our joint venture partner have had with local communities and clans in the project area has also been a major factor in getting this survey under way," Mr Povey said.

Africa Oil is the operator of the on shore oil and gas exploration effort with an obligation to spend US$50m to earn an 80% interest in the two main basin areas in the Nogal and Darin Basins of Puntland.

The project area covers 200,000 square kilometres with Range having exclusive exploration rights to all key hydrocarbon and mineral regions in the State of Puntland.
